The Los Angeles Center for Emotionally Focused Therapy (LACEFT) is proud to present this outstanding program and training opportunity. Mastering First Sessions is an intermediate level event that is recommended to all professionals who counsel couples, including psychiatrists, psychologists, MFT’s, family physicians, social workers, psychiatric nurses, counselors, pastors and clergy, and students training in these professions. The pre-requisite for attendance is completion of the EFT Externship or graduate level coursework in EFT.

ABOUT OUR PROGRAM
This one-day presentation provides an overview of the theory and practice of Emotionally Focused Therapy with special emphasis on Stage 1 work during the first few sessions.
This one-day training will present the theory and practice of Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy. The training will consist of didactic teaching, observation of live session tapes, and experiential learning through role-playing, and videotape viewing. Participants will receive copies of pertinent literature and transcripts.
OBJECTIVES: Participants will be able:
- To summarize the goals of EFT
- To use empathic attunement
- To list focus points in the assessment process
- To use a therapeutic alliance
- To assess the interactional patterns of the negative cycle
Kathryn de Bruin, LMFT, Certified EFT Trainer & Supervisor
Kathryn de Bruin is a Marriage and Family Therapist, Certified EFT Trainer and Supervisor. She has a full-time private practice in San Diego, CA where she works with children and families. Kathryn teaches Play Therapy at the University of California San Diego, in the Play Therapy Program, and practicum at Bethel University. She serves as clinical supervisor to the Alliant Couple and Family Clinic. With a heart for her homeland South Africa, Kathryn started www.eftsouthafrica.com. She travels back frequently to provide trainings. As an AAMFT supervisor, Kathryn enjoys providing supervision in person and online. Supervisees have described her as warm, perceptive and skilled. Pam-Solem-Weser, LPC, EFT Trainer Candidate
Pam Solem-Weser is a licensed counselor in private practice in Scottsdale, AZ. She is an EFT Certified Therapist, Supervisor, and Trainer-in-Training. Pam organized and led the development of the AZEFT Community and now serves as Co-Chair of the Board of Directors. She is passionate in her work with couples and families and is particularly interested in helping stepfamilies become healthy, thriving families. Pam is excited about her role as Trainer and works to teach and encourage therapists to become their best selves as EFT Therapists.
Participants may earn 7 CE credits for attending the entire program.
Partial credits will not be offered.
LACEFT is approved by the American Psychological Association to sponsor continuing education for psychologists. LACEFT is also an approved provider of continuing education by the California Association of Marriage and Family Therapists for LMFT’s, LCSW’s, and LPC’s.
